Fulgent has state-of-the-art clinical, sequencing and bioinformatics tools, including the latest Illumina sequencers such as the NovaSeq.SUMMARY OF POSITION:The position of Laboratory Support Genetic Counselor provides genetic consultation to providers requesting genetic testing and acts as a consultant to health care providers regarding highly specialized genetic information pertinent to management of their patients. The Laboratory Genetic Counselor will also provide direct counseling and risk assessment services to patients. This position will be responsible for providing case management for complex genetic cases including coordination medical recommendations and management plans, testing and ongoing counseling.KEY JOB ELEMENTS:Liaison between Fulgent Genetics and other healthcare practitioners such as clinical genetic counselors, physicians, and clients pertaining to available testing options, test standards and limitations, laboratory reporting policies, etc.Provides clinical expertise to curation scientist and directors with accessioning inquiries, test order modifications, and result interpretation.Contributes to test improvement and new test development.Assist with marketing team in patient and physician literature.Assist with variant interpretation and reporting.Supports laboratory quality assurance standards.Ability to work weekend shift on a rotating basis.KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) training program.Previous experience in variant classification and/or reporting is preferred.Board certification as a Genetic Counselor by the ABGC or eligibility to take the board exam.Broad knowledge of genetics (cancer, cardiac, neuro, pediatric, carrier screening, technology, & etc.).Excellent communication and organization skills with strong attention to detail.Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive and friendly attitude.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:NoneREPORTS TO:Director of Genetic CounselingENVIRONMENT:Fulgent Therapeutics LLC is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
