SUMMARY

Under general direction of the Manager Software Engineering, this position will focus on development and application of advanced optimization and control theory for power systems, develops and applies advanced control systems methods, theories and research technologies in the investigation and solution of complex and advanced technical problems for power conversion equipment. The Sr Control Engineer shall lead controls engineer team in all stages of product development from design through manufacturing and system integration under minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Experienced in mixed mode Analog and Digital control system modeling, design, and implementation
  • Applied Controls algorithm modeling, design, and implementation for high voltage and high power systems
  • Exposure to embedded software development in support and optimize for control systems
  • Contributing to technical proposals for developing new projects and business.
  • Lead development of control design architectures for new products.
  • Leading portions of large, complex, formal documents, such as project reports, journal articles, conference papers, and presentations
  • Support new programs from conceptual design, through detail design to completion.
  • Provide control systems technical leadership for the design team.
  • Perform control systems analysis of power conversion equipment and system architectures.
  • Write product and test specifications pertaining control systems.
  • Recommends corrections in technical approach to maximize efficiency of engineering resources.
  • Provides expert guidance with a variety of control systems engineering concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Senior Controls Engineer will take directions from Project Engineer or Software Engineering Department Manager.
    QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Must have design familiarity with control systems for power system architectures and power conversion equipment.
  • Must have expert knowledge of control theory and circuit analysis applications, MATLAB / SIMULINK.
  • Knowledge of power electronics and analog circuits, a plus.
  • Experience in development of military, aerospace, or medical products, strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge in Digital and Microcomputer circuits, embedded SOC, a plus.
  • Must be able to work as a key member of the design team with Power Design Engineers, Digital and Analog Engineers, System Engineers, Software Engineers and Mechanical Engineers.
  • Expertise in embedded real-time systems design.
  • Expertise in the practical implementation of control system algorithms.
  • Experienced in object and service-based software architectures, a plus.
  • Expertise with digital signal processing, machine to machine communications, and fiber optics based communications subsystems.
  • Exposure programming language of C/C++, knowledge of Python and Object-Oriented Programing (OOP) is preferred.
  • Expertise with communication protocols, such as RS-232, RS-485, and Ethernet.
  • Proven effective communication with Senior Project Management and customer representatives is essential.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret/security clearance.
    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor of Science degree in Computer / Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a four-year college or university; and minimum 12 years of experience in design and analysis of control systems for power conversion equipment or minimum 10 years of prior related work experience with Master of Science degree. Advanced degree beyond MS and PHD is preferred.

    In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $152,500 - $283,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
