Apply today!What our team members are saying:Video Clip 1 Video Clip 2 Video Clip 3 Learn more about us at cathaybank.com GENERAL SUMMARYPerform legal services and assist or manage outside counsel on a wide range of legal, compliance, and risk management matters that affect the bank and its publicly traded bank holding company, including: reviewing, preparing, and negotiating legal documents (e.g., agreements, regulatory filings, deeds and other real estate transaction documents, pleadings and discovery responses); researching, analyzing, and advising on legal, compliance, and risk issues; representing the bank or its holding company in negotiating and handling transactions or disputes with opposing counsel and customers, vendors, regulators, governmental entities, other banks and financial institutions, and other third parties. These matters may include, without limitation, the matters described below under Essential Functions.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSProvide legal counsel and advice to the Bank on a range of legal topics and policies.Identify gaps and issues and advises Bank on matters as related to a legal perspective.Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, regulatory requirements and law through creation and management process to mitigate legal risk.Provide day-to-day legal advice in support of management, business units and operations. Such support may include the review and creation of form loan documentation, outside counsel management, perform internal training, conduct legal research, prepare legal opinions, and draft documents.Support the implementation of a comprehensive loan operating system for underwriting, financial reporting, marketing, and, in some cases, loan documentation.Work with a wide range of business units and groups, such as compliance, marketing, lending, operations, treasury, and risk management, to provide effective and efficient legal, transactional, and regulatory guidance.Review and interpret legal documents such as contracts and opinions.Anticipate issues and estimate risks strategicallyBase decision-making process on ethics and integrity.Draft and negotiate contracts and document amendments.Review and distribute appropriate banking circulars and supplements.Maintain compliance with all Federal and State banking laws and related regulations, to include but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act.Perform other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Juris Doctor/Bachelor of Law degree from an accredited law school. Licensed to practice in California required.Experience: At least 3 years of experience in providing legal support and advice to financial institutions either in private practice or as in-house counsel on lending, deposit operations, regulations, and litigation.Skills/Ability: Strong communication, management, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to learn and adapt to new business and regulatory demands.
